Your Future Self Will Appreciate These 3 Easy Acts of Self-Care You Can Do Today

You’ve reviewed your calendar. You’ve been busy preparing for a big event or working hard on a challenging project. You know you need to be gentle with yourself. You deserve a treat, but you don’t have time/money/space for the big splashy reward you fantasize about and sincerely need. And you know you will need it!

Never fear! Hopefully the situation is not permanent and you can plan for a much-needed rest. But in the meantime, if you know you will be tired and cranky after an upcoming day there are a few things you can do, in advance, to treat yourself, that don’t involve a week away, wrecking your diet, breaking the budget or staying up late numbing with cable television.

  1. Fresh flowers or even evergreen branches can do wonders to brighten up a space and lift your spirits. If you don’t have access to fresh cuttings in your yard you can buy an inexpensive single flower or bouquet at a grocery or convenience store.
  2. Spend the entire day cooking. Well at least your food can spend the entire day cooking. Slowly. Before a particularly busy week, spending even a small amount of time gathering simple meal ingredients will make a big difference on a weeknight evening. Preparing a simple 5-ingredient or less slow cooker recipe, turning on your cooker and forget it about it while you attend to the day’s business. Later, you’ll have a delicious home-cooked meal waiting for you at meal time.
  3. Make your bed! If you know you have a particularly late night or full schedule. Take extra care to launder your bedding and spritz your sheets with a fine mist of your favorite essential oil or linen spray. By the time you arrive home that night you can look forward to climbing into a freshly made bed made with smooth, fine-smelling sheets.

The point is you don’t have to wait to be adored or thanked by someone else for all you do. Care for yourself. Treat yourself. Cherish you. You are worth it. Your future self will thank you.

How are you going to care for yourself after your next rough day?
